Eventing is comprised of three phases in which the same horse and rider combination perform in the areas of dressage, cross country jumping and show jumping. Ranging from one day to three days, eventing draws riders of all ages and all levels of competency, and is one of the 3 recognized Olympic horse sports. Originating from the days of military on horseback, the purpose of this sport at its outset was to provide the ultimate test of the "war horse" and "warrior." Called the triathlon of horse sports, eventing challenges both horse and rider in their partnership and athletic prowess through three distinct and demanding disciplines:
- The grace of dressage
- The rigors of cross-country jumping
- The power of show jumping
