Faith Caldwell’s devotion to the equine world was a lifelong thread that bound her personal and professional journeys. Growing up, her love for horses began at home in Ohio, spent reading horse books and doing horse puzzles with her father. That early curiosity blossomed into a deep, enduring commitment to riding, eventing, and dressage. During her undergraduate years at George Washington University, her passion found a lifelong friend in Pat Maykuth. Bonded by their shared love of horses, Faith regularly traveled to Pennsylvania to assist with pony club camps, beginning a pattern of dedicated service to the horse community that would define her life.
Systems Innovation and Professional Excellence:
Faith was, by training and intellect, a master systems analyst. After earning a Bachelor’s in International Affairs from George Washington University and a Master of Public Administration in Judicial Administration from NYU, she dedicated her early career to public infrastructure, designing public safety systems for the City of Charlotte. Later, as an engagement leader at EDS working under Ross Perot in Raleigh, she oversaw complex global software operations—particularly military accounts—ensuring that systems performed flawlessly for end-users.
Bringing Professional Rigor to Equestrian Safety:
When Faith was introduced to Lefreda Williams at the Carolina Horse Park (CHP) by her college friend Pat, she brought her trademark analytical mind and exacting standards directly to the Park. Seeing an immediate operational need to improve coordination between emergency fire and safety teams, Faith stepped forward. She took on the vital role of Safety Officer—a challenging position requiring high-level coordination and emergency foresight.
Her analytical curiosity wasn’t limited to CHP’s grounds. At the national level, Faith threw herself into solving complex safety challenges—such as researching structural stability and horse safety strategies during sudden microburst storms. Whether volunteering at major trials or helping lead national research, Faith consistently applied her systems background to elevate equine safety and event management.
A Vision Beyond Routine Shows:
Faith didn’t view the Carolina Horse Park as merely a host for weekend competitions. She recognized its 317 acres as a rare, transformative asset capable of shaping the future of equestrian sport.
Faith was deeply concerned that modern equestrianism had lost touch with fundamental fitness, conditioning, and pace, replacing hands-on horsemanship with an exclusive focus on arena competition outcomes. She envisioned CHP as a living laboratory and educational hub to bridge modern equine exercise science with practical horseman’s knowledge.

Following her kidney transplant, Faith expressed a quiet desire to leave a lasting, systematic mark on the equestrian world—not a vanity project, but an investment in land, safety, and community.
Her extraordinary $1,150,000 bequest to the Carolina Horse Park Foundation fulfills that exact vision.
