RAEFORD—Horse racing fans from across the state gathered at Carolina Horse Park Saturday for the annual Stoneybrook Steeplechase.

About 40 horses competed in five different races. The event draws about 7,000 people to Hoke County every year and it thought of by many as a sign of spring.

"We have a lot of events here where we're lucky to get neighbors and friends and people that are competing but there's no event like this one to bring the whole community out and get everybody involved in something that's a milestone of spring," said Nick Ellis, Carolina Horse Park Chairman.

Saturday marked the 60th year for the race.
