The community benefits resulting from
Carolina Horse Park are varied and significant. Almost immediately, the prospect of higher valued horse
farms being developed in west Hoke County increased the market value of land in the surrounding
area. Asking prices have more than doubled with landowners, real estate agents, banks and appraisers,
and eventually county tax coffers all benefiting. The low density and open style development is an
attractive alternative to much higher density developments.
Several thousand
visitors on a horse show weekend increases the demand for everything from motel rooms
to fuel and food for people and horses. The annual
Stoneybrook Festival & Steeplechase brings thousands
of visitors from across the country, thus increasing the
demand for these accommodations several-fold compared to
a normal horse show weekend. Mowing, maintenance, manure
removal, and similar services is contracted with
individuals
in the immediate area.
Advance planning mitigates congestion and disruption in
the neighborhood of the park itself. A single horse
trial over one long weekend, such as the annual Southern
Pines Horse Trials, adds several hundred thousand
dollars to the local economy. The benefits to both Hoke
and Moore County are truly impressive!
In
addition to equestrian events, the Board of Directors of
the Carolina Horse Park Foundation is looking into
hosting other events such as antique car shows, dog
trials, or even a hot-air balloon event!
